What is hypnosis?
flowerThe use of hypnosis can be found as far back as history has been recorded. This natural healing art, and in more recent times in its therapeutic use, has been proven to be safe and effective, there has never been a case of anyone being harmed in hypnosis.

Many have tried to define what hypnosis is, and you will find a wide range of definitions in a variety of reference textbooks.  In its simplest term, hypnosis is a state of very deep relaxation. In that relaxed state you are aware of all that is going on around you, you just feel so relaxed you just cannot be bothered to do anything about it. Many having seen the stage hypnosis shows, think that you are deeply asleep and give over control to the hypnotist.  Stage hypnotism is a show and has little to do with therapy. In therapy because of this high state of awareness you are always in control.

It is in this relaxed state that a variety of therapies can take place, utilising the power of the subconscious mind. Suggestion therapy has been generally available for many years, it can have reasonable results, however tends to dissipate over time. From the advent of a more clinical approach regression based therapies have been shown to be highly effective, achieving positive results in just a few sessions, unlike the counselling route which can take months or even years.

Hypnosis is extremely effective for a wide range of conditions – see what hypnosis can help you with.

How will I feel in hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a state of deep relaxation. It is that same state that you encounter just before you drop off to sleep at night, and is there for perfectly natural.

Will I be aware of what is happening during hypnosis?
Hypnosis is actually a heightened state of awareness, so you are in fact more aware of everything that is happening around you, and will remember everything.

How many sessions will I need?
This would depend on the therapy, and it is important to remember that we are all individuals and some will need more sessions that others.
A Stop Smoking therapy would normally take 1-2 sessions, and as a general rule most other therapies take 3-5 sessions.

Are the sessions confidential?
Absolutely - none of your details will ever be passed to anyone else without your permission. I am a member of the General Hypnotherapy Register and am bound by a strict code of conduct.

Can I be made to do something against my will under hypnosis?
No, in hypnosis you are in control at all times. Your subconscious mind will not accept any suggestion that goes against your morals or beliefs.
